CEASE Therapy (Complete Elimination of Autistic Spectrum Expression) is a treatment approach for autism spectrum disorder developed by Dutch homeopath Tinus Smits.
CEASE is a combination of Isopathy (a form of homeopathy) and Orthomolecular Medicine.
Isopathy, which is also known as Tautopathy, is a sub-branch of homeopathy in which we are not giving similar medicine based on symptom matching but, rather, we are giving the same medicine (which is thought to have caused the disease or disorder), in micro-doses. For example, if a child has been given a particular (conventional) medicine, or has been exposed to a particular toxin, and has never been well since doing so, then the same medicine/toxin is homeopathically prepared and given to the child to reduce the effects or the side effects of that particular medicine or drug or toxin. For e.g., there is research available where homeopathically prepared arsenic, completely free from toxicity, has proven to be of help in the elimination of arsenic, in cases of arsenic-poisoning.[2],[3]
Orthomolecular medicine aims to restore the optimum environment of the body by correcting molecular imbalances, determined by a wide range of testing and physician experience, and based on individual biochemistry.[4] Orthomolecular therapy involves altering the intake of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, fatty acids, macronutrients, and other naturally occurring, metabolically active substances.
CEASE therapy developer Dr Tinus Smits passed away in 2010 but, before that, he had documented three hundred autistic cases which were benefited from this therapy. After his death, the therapy continued in the hands of the people he had trained and today, CEASE therapy practitioners have found it beneficial for multiple other disorders. The principle remains the same.
In my practice, I use CEASE therapy for autistic children only in cases where a clear simillimum is not indicated or cases where there is a clear regression after a certain treatment or vaccination. In most cases, I prefer to start with the classical homeopathy approach, along with some dietary suggestions.
